Christmas & NY festivities

Published by adriamatrix on

Last year we were a little more organised having booked a site for the festive period, this year however we by the time Skye left us we hadn’t made any definite plans. With only 4 days to go we thought we better pull our fingers out and decide what were going to do.

Eventually we decided to head to spot near La Azohia where some fellow Facebookers were planning to meet up. On arrival at what was an idyllic spot overlooking a small bay, we were created by Terry & Carol, Pete & Bev and Jennifer & Jeff. After introductions we all all wasted no time in deciding that we should get to know each of at the local bar. Several hours later after we had confused the poor waitress with how the bill was going to be split we continued our impromptu get together back at our vans. A lovely Polish family (Alex, Marek and Emily) as joined us. A great time was had by all.

Disaster struck the next day (Christmas Eve) – the cold bugs I have been trying to stave off for the last week have hit my tonsils. I spent the whole day in bed resting in the vain hope that I would make a miraculous recovery by the morning. Unfortunately this didn’t happen and instead of a lovely Christmas meal at the local restaurant my Christmas lunch was pureed banana and pear. We spent the day in the van binge watching Line of Duty.

Feeling slightly better the next day I managed to sit out and socialise a little – but to top it all I also have a toothache in the tooth I had checked out before I left the UK. It never rains but it pours eh?!

Needing to empty/get water we decided to head off further along the coast, however, we discovered the road to the spot we had planned was closed. After consulting the maps/apps we decided to try Palomares and found a great spot next to the beach with a bar alongside -perfect.

Unfortunately, toothache wasn’t getting any better so I located an English speaking dentist in Mojacar http://www.dentalcentermojacar.com/ – they were really friendly and efficient. The verdict is that I needed root canal treatment, not what I had envisaged happening on my travels. In the end, we decide its best to get it sorted so head up to a Camper Park at Cuevas de Almanzora. An appointment is booked for 3rd January so spend the next few days at the site chilling in the sun. The site has a lovely feel and the views from the top of the site are stunning. We have spent time with Ian & Denise who have also sold their bricks ‘n’ mortar and also Angie and Paul from Romford.

After our non-event Christmas day we decide to push the boat out and see the new year in Spanish style in the company of Angie and Paul at the site’s NYE meal. Eating 12 grapes (with pips) while quaffing Cava at the same time is no mean feat – believe me! We had a fabulous evening which ended at around 4am!

After waving Angie & Paul off on their onward travels we decide to get our bikes out. We head down to the coast making a pit stop at Garrucha to enjoy a refreshment in the sunshine – well that is until we are asked to move to a table in the shadow as we aren’t have food as well. I wouldn’t mind but the venue was near enough empty!

Cueas del Almanzora N37 15′ 45 W1 51′ 18″ – € 10 pn € 3 EHU – great site location difficult to find – at Lidl turn right and follow camper signs

Good and bad news at the dentist today. The decay wasn’t as far down as the nerve so root canal treatment isn’t necessary. The bad news is the tooth is fractured and its likely to need to be extracted. I have decided to have it re-filled at the moment and see how it goes – fingers crossed.

I think we will spend another day on site to see how it goes – all be well we will be off on our travels again very soon.
