Winter tour – week 2

Published by adriamatrix on

Day 8 – A quieter night, but I swear I could still hear the trains in the distance, missed the sound of the sea – not so keen to be woken up by incessant cooing pigeons!

After brekkie we headed of in search of a camping shop we had found on trusty Google (McRent) to replace the step we had left in the Pyrenees and the picnic rug we had mislaid a few stops back -hmm seems to be a theme developing!

Shop turned out to be a goldmine of everything a motorhomer would ever need. Mission accomplished we headed for another beachfront spot found on he Park4Night app N41 3’5″ E1 0’57” Sunbathing and swimming – perfect!

Day 9 – cycled to Cambrilslovely 20 min flat ride from our stopover. Nice little town with small marinaenjoyed a coffee in the sun before heading back to Trinny for a spot of lunch.

We then headed further south to Deltebre Delta – several small lagoons surrounded by rice fields. Stunning scenery great for birdwatchers with flamingos, herons and cranes to name just a few of this area’s local inhabitants.

Stopped on private aire next to restaurant N40 39’30” E0 40’31”

Spent a pleasant couple of hours chatting to a couple, Ian & Sandra, from Barrow who are 6 weeks into their year long adventure.

Day 10 – leisurely morning chatting to our new neighbours on the sun followed by a cycle ride around one of the lagoons to Poble Nou. Headed back to camp more, chatting and drinking with our Northern neighbours and some not so welcome guests – lots of mossies!

Day 11 – headed to the river, the spot we had planned to stop at was full of jet skiers and unfortunately we couldn’t find anywhere nearby to launch the kayak so we headed for a long sand spit on the delta. Stunning scenery, but no camping allowed so we decided to head towards Peniscola. Stopover at La Volta Stop & Go – 7.50 Euros per night. Lovely hot powerful showers – what a treat!

Day 12 – after filling up on gas and provisions we decided to have a break from travelling for a few days. Pitched up at Los Pinos 12 Euros per night with ACSI card. Laundry day. Late afternoon our Northern friends arrived having also decided to have few days in one place. This travelling malarkey can be surprisingly tiring! A heavy night in the bar ensued!

Day 13 – feeling a little jaded first thing – can’t think why😜After a very slow start we headed out on bikes to explore Peñíscola. We loved the old town which is full of little cobbled streets with the castle of Papa Luna at its summit. Being out of season most of restaurants were closed, but we found several open around the harbour. We choose one with a table in the sun and sampled Menu del Dia 11 Euros for 3 courses and a beer – can’t complain at that.

Visited campsite bar for pre-dinner drinks with Sandra & Ian -they ended up hosting dinner – thanks guys dinner is on us further down the coast.

Day 14 – Afternoon bike ride to Natural Park of Serra d’Irta -stunning scenery, although quick hilly – the power assisted came into their own. Lunch on beach and then quiet night to let our livers recover!

Week 2 over and out 😊
